Getting Started
Everything you need to go from download to playing your first ensemble.
Requirements
- macOS 11 Big Sur or later (Apple Silicon only)
- A DAW that supports AU or VST3 plugins — or use the standalone app
- One or more VST3 or AU virtual instruments installed on your system
- An MPE MIDI controller (recommended — designed for expressive controllers like the Linnstrument or Seaboard, but standard MIDI keyboards work too)
Sign Up & Download
- Create an account to join the alpha
- Check your email for a confirmation link, then log in
- Go to your Dashboard to copy your license key and download the installer
Install
- Open the downloaded .pkg file and follow the installer
- If macOS shows a security warning, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway"
- The installer places files in these locations:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/MultiSolo.component/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/MultiSolo.vst3/Applications/MultiSolo.app/Library/MultiSolo/Presets/First Launch
- Open MultiSolo.app from Applications, or load MultiSolo as a plugin in your DAW
- When prompted, paste the license key from your Dashboard
- Click the preset name at the top and select a factory preset — Soliste String Quartet is a great starting point
- Connect your MIDI controller and play — each note range is routed to a different instrument
Loading Your Own Instruments
- Click a slot label (e.g. "Slot 1") and choose Load Plugin to browse your installed AU/VST3 instruments
- Set the note range for each slot — notes outside the range are ignored, so instruments don't overlap
- Adjust the max voices per slot to control polyphony (fewer voices = lighter CPU load)
- Use Save Preset to store your setup for later
Tips
- MPE controllers: MultiSolo works with MPE-capable controllers like the Linnstrument or Seaboard. Enable MPE mode in your controller's settings for per-note expression.
- Round-robin vs. note-range routing: Note-range mode splits the keyboard so each slot covers a specific range. Round-robin distributes notes evenly across all slots — great for layering the same instrument with different articulations.
- Saving presets: User presets are stored in
~/Library/Application Support/MultiSolo/Presets/and persist across updates.
